(FREMONT, CA)--Agility, a company leading the future of humanoid robotics has just seen the opening of its brand new 60,000-square-foot facility in Silicon Valley.

The tech company will be utilizing its new Fremont facility to accelerate the development of the company’s humanoid robot, Digit. Engineers there are currently honing in on AI software and technologies to test and train the robot to operate at a higher level to perform complex tasks.
The new facility is projected to open up about 200 high quality jobs specializing in constructing the brains of the robot, hence it being dubbed the ‘software and capabilities hub’.
In contrast, Agility’s 70,000-square-foot facility in Salem, Oregon known as “Robofab” focuses specifically on manufacturing the hardware for Digit. Combining both hardware and software, Agility has produced a bipedal robot designed to navigate and maneuver inside the same spaces that humans also occupy to aid in laborious tasks.
Companies such as Mercado Libre in Latin America for instance, who’ve partnered with Agility, are currently utilizing Digit for e-commerce fulfillment operations. Repetitive tasks such as walking, standing, bending and carrying items for extended periods of time are core activities that take place within fulfillment centers like Mercado Libre which Digit facilitates.

Beyond just simply proving it can work, in late 2025, Agility celebrated Digits accomplishment of successfully crossing a six figure threshold of moving 100,000 totes during its time at a GXO facility in Flowery Branch Georgia demonstrating the durability and longevity of the robot.
With this, other notable titans of industry such as Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada that partnered with Agility earlier this year after a successful pilot run, Schaeffler, a German company specializing in motion technology and Amazon are also among the list of growing customers using Digit.
While Agility and its partners are celebrating these milestones, concerns regarding workplace safety is also a primary focal point regarding Digit. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest organization made up of technologists aiming to better humanity through advancing technology published ,“A Pathway Study for Future Humanoid Standards “.
The 95 page report outlines its purpose to bridge the gap between preestablished industry standards regarding traditional automation systems and newer humanoid robots that require modern certifications and regulations.

“Due to this, none of these specialized safety standards apply to humanoids. For humanoids, even with all the joints braked and powered off, which is a very conventional safe state for fixed manipulators, the robot is not necessarily in a safe state”, the report says.
The study further explained that the default state of instability humanoid robots possess even when used by high-performing controllers can still be unsafe. “ Current standards do not adequately address stability requirements, and so a dedicated series of standards is now recognized as a market need.”, the study also pointed out.
Even with these precautionary warnings, Agility has already obtained more than $300 million in “multi-year orders” for their new robot model, Digitv5. According to a press release, these orders coupled with a growing customer base, is in response to the current demand to utilize humanoid robots at full scale capacity.
