County officials said drones have become valuable tools for search-and-rescue operations, emergency response, investigations, and public safety missions.
The Probation Department reported continued use of six drones as part of its operations, while Regional Parks and the Sheriff's Office outlined how unmanned aircraft and other specialized equipment are deployed under department policies.
OpGov.news reports officials emphasized that the annual reports are designed to ensure transparency and public oversight regarding military-style equipment and emerging technologies.
Supporters argue drones can improve public safety, while reducing risks to first responders. Privacy advocates, however, have raised concerns statewide regarding surveillance and the expansion of law enforcement technology.
The Board of Supervisors received the reports as part of the county's ongoing compliance with state oversight requirements.
