Fremont Police Officer Involved In Shooting Following Reports Of Man With Gun

(FREMONT, CA.) – The Fremont Police Department began receiving the calls around 3:38 PM on Friday, July 24.

According to the press releases authored by the Fremont PD and the California Department of Justice, these calls were made to report a man with a gun.

The Fremont press release provides more details than the DOJ’s, including information on the suspect’s previous whereabouts, the location of the incident, and more.

Unlike the DOJ press release, Fremont PD’s states that the man was previously seen in a meeting room and was reported to be holding two people hostage.

It also states that he was reported to be carrying a duffel bag, and that this incident took place near an assisted living facility on Walnut Avenue.

Both press releases state that a shooting incident involving the Fremont Police occurred on July 24, around the time and location stated above.

Both also state that this incident resulted in the death of the man with the gun. Neither, however, explicitly states that it was an officer’s bullet, or a bullet at all, that led to the man’s death. 

Fremont PD’s exact wording is as follows: 

“During the interaction, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased.”

It also specifies that no officers were injured during this event.

The DOJ is slightly more specific regarding what led to the man’s death.

“The OIS incident, which resulted in the death of one individual, occurred around 3:38 PM and involved the Fremont Police Department,” it says.

The only further details provided by either of these releases is that the investigation of this event was turned over to the DOJ after the Fremont PD examined the suspect’s weapon. 

OpGov.news reached out to the Fremont PD to request further details on the event, but was met with only a recommendation to contact the DOJ instead.
