(SACRAMENTO, CA.) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man at a Sacramento business last week, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 11:20 a.m. at a business located in the 1000 block of Howe Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found the 31-year-old victim (Kenneth Peace) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel arrived. Despite those efforts, Peace was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the suspect had fled before law enforcement arrived. Sacramento County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives launched an extensive investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and conducting witness interviews.

Through the investigation, detectives identified 28-year-old Xander Burnside as the suspected shooter. Authorities obtained a warrant for Burnside's arrest on a murder charge, and the Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau began searching for him.
The Sacramento Sheriff's Office confirmed to OpGov.news that just after noon on June 9, detectives located Burnside in Pinole, California, and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on a murder charge. Authorities said Burnside is currently being held without bail.
