Any candidate winning over 50% of the vote would automatically fill Eric Swalwell’s position. Aisha Wahab, the leading candidate, leads with only 42.2% of the vote.
Due to the lack of an immediate winner, the top two candidates will proceed to a runoff election taking place on Aug. 18.
The candidate who wins the runoff election will serve the rest of Eric Swalwell’s term through December 2026.
