(LIVERMORE, CA.) - 50 stations in 6 hours; the annual Bart speed-run will commence on Sunday, September 6, celebrating Bart's 54th birthday.

According to Bart's press release, the 131 miles covered will serve as a fun and interactive way for Bay Area residents and commuters to learn about the transit system. The event's challenge is also a test of speed, hence the name, to see just how quickly all participants can land in all 50 stations.
The official map of the routes is characterized by their different colors, which are red, blue, green, yellow. The map also includes the entire schedule for the speed-run, and is designed to facilitate the speed-run process. The event is open to all ages, ranging from high schoolers to adults and anyone in between.
This, of course, brings its share of competitive fun to the table as well. On the official Bart.Gov site, an official speed-run records category was created to keep track of the logged times. Regarding the fastest time recorded, the record is set at 5 hours and 9 minutes, which was logged in 2024.
Other times recorded, though not record breaking, highlight the camaraderie of community and fellowship of transit systems and local commuters. In December 2025 for example, five friends completed the run in just under six hours at approximately five hours and 54 minutes, starting at the Millbrae station and ending in Antioch.
Earlier that year, in July 2025, a 21-person group took part in the speed-run, constituting the largest group to ever attempt the speed run together within record time. With this, the creation of the TransitRuns website spawned soon after. The site was created by transit lovers and enthusiasts who established a global leaderboard ranking speed-run times from all over the world.
To date, the website shows 96 transit systems across 66 cities located in 26 countries. For instance, the most recent upload to the leaderboard, recorded August 29, comes from the British Isles in Birmingham, England, operated by West Midlands Metro.
In the spirit of Transit Month and Bart's 54th anniversary, the Western Railway Museum will be showcasing a brand-new fun and immersive display. According to Bart.gov, it states, “ ..The Western Railway Museum lets visitors step aboard three legacy BART cars and explore the technology, design, and history of the system.”

This will be open to the public on September 12th, where it'll be open from 9:30.a.m to 5.p.m inSuisun City. To top off other notable events happening in Transit Month, there will be the educational C.E.O Ride-Along, where the community will be able to interact with transit leadership like Bart General Manager Bob Powers.
“The theme of the ride is financial efficiency and raising awareness of the $1 billion in cost-saving measures taken by the four agencies from July 2019 through June 2025,” according to Bart website. The event is scheduled to take place on September 11, 2026.
