(PLEASANTON, Calif.) – The City of Pleasanton’s Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for OneSchool Global at 2340 Santa Rita Road during its September 23 meeting. The permit allows OneSchool Global to “operate a private school of up to 40 students,” according to the language listed on the meeting agenda.

OneSchool Global is a private school network with more than 120 campuses worldwide, according to its website. The organization says that although it was “originally established by members of the Church and underpinned by a Christian ethos, the school is not a religious institution and is not owned or operated by the Church.”
The church is the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.
While OneSchool Global does receive support from Brethren community volunteers, the two organizations reference each other on their respective websites. The church lists OneSchool Global as part of its “network,” alongside other organizations such as the Rapid Relief Team, a global charity. The church said of these organizations and others like them, “Whilst not owned by the Church, [the organizations] exist to support the Community, and local, regional, and global communities where our members live, work, and serve.
Elsewhere, on its website, the church said that teachers “aren’t affiliated with the Church.”
OneSchool Global’s approach to learning emphasizes a “learn to learn” framework, according to the school’s website. Implemented in 2014, it aims to “guide students towards becoming independent, flexible, and self-motivated learners.”
OpGov.News reached out to OneSchool Global to learn more about the school and its plans in Pleasanton. Questions were answered by email and the spokesperson requested to be identified only as “A OneSchool Global Spokesperson.”
“OneSchool Global San Francisco campus follows the California and federal curriculum requirements for private schools,” said the spokesperson.
“What is distinctive about OneSchool Global is the way we deliver that curriculum through our award winning pedagogy,” the spokesperson said. “Our innovative approach to learning and teaching supports our students to take greater ownership of their learning and sees our students becoming increasingly self-directed.”
The current San Francisco campus in Castro Valley has 32 students enrolled from grades 3-12.
OneSchool Global had planned to refurbish its Castro Valley campus, but determined that the Pleasanton site could “better meet the needs of students and staff,” according to the spokesperson.
Following the September 23 permit approval by the Pleasanton Planning Commission, “OneSchool Global and its design team are progressing into the detailed design phase,” according to the school’s spokesperson.
“This includes completing architectural design development, onboarding engineering consultants, and preparing construction documents required for permitting and construction.”
OneSchool Global is aiming to open its Pleasanton campus in August 2027. The school plans to operate Monday through Friday from 7:25 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the campus expected to be completed in time for the 2027-2028 school year.
