(SACRAMENTO, CA.) — A woman was detained following an approximately three-hour standoff early Thursday after a man was found shot to death inside a Sacramento County home, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a residence on Frederic Avenue at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sept. 3 after a neighbor called 911. The neighbor told dispatchers that the victim’s adult son had come to his door and asked him to call for help because his father’s girlfriend had shot his father, the Sheriff’s Office stated in an X post.
When deputies arrived, they contacted the son and learned that several people could potentially still be inside the residence.
Deputies established a perimeter around the home. During the response, the woman identified by investigators as the suspect came to the front door holding a firearm, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She eventually placed the gun on the front porch before going back inside.
Deputies used a public-address system in an effort to persuade her to surrender.
Meanwhile, deputies contacted people living in an accessory dwelling unit in the backyard and evacuated three adults and three children. Residents of nearby homes were also evacuated as armored vehicles were positioned around the scene.
After repeated attempts to get the woman to surrender were unsuccessful, deputies deployed chemical agents into the residence. A drone sent inside the home located the woman with at least one additional firearm, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
About three hours after the incident began, members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail entered the home and detained the woman without incident.
Deputies then located an adult man dead inside the residence.
Crime Scene Investigators and Homicide Bureau detectives remained at the scene Thursday investigating the killing. The Sheriff’s Office said detectives did not believe there were any outstanding suspects.
Authorities had not publicly identified the victim or the detained woman in the initial announcement, nor had they announced what charges she could face.
A portion of Frederic Avenue remained closed while investigators processed the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
