Why is there a LinkedIn Job Data Center Posting in Pensacola if Elected Officials Say They Don't Want a Facility

(PENSACOLA) ---- If there is no data center allowed in Pensacola then why is LinkedIn listing applications for one?

HDR, an employee-owned engineering firm, posted an opening for a Power Generation Data Center Lead with Pensacola listed as a location, despite ongoing discussion that there is no interest in building data center projects in the region.

The job was originally posted on May 29, 2026, but was reposted on August 1, 2026.

It seeks a candidate to lead power generation consulting for data centers and mission-critical projects. The posting listed Pensacola among more than 100 possible work locations across the United States.

The job post reports HDR believes "electricity powers modern life and that the role will help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered as global energy demands grow."

Additionally, the company said team members contribute to reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems. 

The company touts why it is a great employer below.

However, hiring here may be hard due to the data center backstory. Residents of Pensacola have advocated against data center development in recent months, citing concerns over power use, water consumption, and noise.

Local officials have said there was nothing to worry about and that no data center projects were planned for the area; however, there is a public hearing on August 6.

Industry groups have also said Northwest Florida lacks the transmission capacity and water resources that typically draw data center developers.

HDR did not say whether the Pensacola listing reflects a specific local project or a broader hiring strategy for remote work. The position is full-time and regular status. Applications are open on the HDR careers site as well as LinkedIn.
