(Albuquerque, N.M). - Election season is underway in Albuquerque, and four candidates seek the title of U.S. Senate.
Over the last couple of months, OpGov.News has covered elections in different cities and has interviewed candidates.
Democrat and Incumbent Ben Ray Lujan, Republican Larry E. Marker, Democrat Matt Dodson and Toby Smith are the candidates.
Luján has been in the U.S. Senate since Jan. 3, 2021.
Luján's website lists a vast amount of information about who he is and what he has done throughout his career.

“Senator Luján sits on the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Finance; the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; the Committee on Indian Affairs; and the Committee on the Budget,” according to lujan.senate.gov.
Lujáns website adds that, “Senator Luján has focused on spurring local economic growth through a number of legislative initiatives. Senator Luján’s legislation to help local entrepreneurs bring their ideas to the marketplace was signed into law, and he has written legislation that would leverage New Mexico’s labs to drive job creation while addressing tomorrow’s energy challenges.”
Marker is a write-in candidate. Write-in candidates are those whose names voters fill in despite not appearing on the ballot.
The Republican has a history of running in elections, according to electionstats.sos.nm.gov. In 2024, Marker ran for State Senate in District 27 and obtained 870 votes.
Additionally, the 63-year-old Marker was a write-in candidate for Commissioner of Public Lands in the state of New Mexico, with 3,950 votes recorded.
“For nearly a decade, Larry Marker, as a private citizen and at great personal cost, stood against self-serving, established political elites and the agenda of tyrannical progressive socialists who are determined to fundamentally alter the laws, morals, customs and character of NM,” according to Marker’s website.

“I will fight for everything in this platform. If a bill has been introduced, I will sign onto it. If no bill has been introduced, I will write that bill, introduce it, and fight for it,” according to mattdodsonfornm.com.
“We are supposed to live in a democracy, meaning when an issue gets 51% support, it should get passed. There are many issues with over 70% support, some over 80% support! We can not get those issues passed because of the corrupting influence of money in politics brought to us by the Supremacist Court. I will fight for any issue that gets that much public support.”
Smith belongs to the Jewish/Christian National Party.
OpGov.News didn’t see a website listed for Smith.
Primary elections begin Tuesday, June 2, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
