Empowering communities through transparent governance
(EL PASO) -- The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has been in the news for its opposition to hosting Tom Homan, White House Border Czar, as a guest for the university chapter of Turning Point USA.
The El Paso City Council, the El Paso County Commissioners, and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar were quick to react and to oppose Mr. Homan's planned visit to El Paso next month.
OpGov.ai obtained Escobar’s comment from local media partner KTSM where Escobar says that she is ashamed UTEP is allowing Homan to speak. In a unanimous vote, the county commissioners passed a resolution they say reaffirms the El Paso County’s core values, including dignity, respect, and opportunity for all, particularly for immigrant communities.

UTEP’s local chapter President Angelica Rodriguez and Vice President Jesse Moreno emphasize that the chapter is on campus to help students get their voices heard in a civil and engaging manner.
Rodriguez points out the traumatic event that shook El Paso as a whole and at the national level on Aug. 3 at the Walmart mass shooting, creating the “El Paso Strong” brand for a time when El Pasoans came together resiliently through the horrific event.
The Local Chapter is encouraging the student body and the general public to the upcoming event planned for Thursday, December 4. Event will be held at the Undergraduate Learning Center Room building Room 106 – 2151 Wiggins Rd
