(PLEASANTON, Calif.) - While covering a CAIR fundraiser, the Tri-Valley Voice team interviewed Rep. Aisha Wahab about what Democrats might do if they win a majority.
Wahab said she would support an investigation into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and efforts to hold those responsible accountable. She added that broader action would require time to build consensus.
Wahab described three broad perspectives on ICE: people who want to abolish the agency, people who want to control or reform it, and people who support it. She said ICE had gone so far that even some Republicans were concerned.
Wahab said constitutional rights and due process should apply to everyone, regardless of immigration status. She also raised concerns about deportations to third countries, citing El Salvador as a destination that, in some cases, is neither a person’s home country nor the United States.

Asked what specific steps she would take, Wahab said, “As the people are split, we need time to build consensus to really act on it in any way.” She did not outline a specific investigative or legislative plan during the interview.
Wahab won a special election to serve the remainder of former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s term. She is now facing BART Director Melissa Hernandez. In the special election, Hernandez received approximately 47% of the vote, compared with about 53% for Wahab. The two have faced one another four times across primary and special elections.
The candidates appeared together at a forum at the Holiday Inn in Dublin on Oct. 7, 2026. It was the first and, according to Tri-Valley Voice, the only joint forum in the 14th Congressional District race since the primary.
Hernandez had previously appeared at a Tri-Valley Voice forum on Sept. 30 at Shannon Community Center. She discussed the party endorsement process, saying that party leaders and selected delegates can influence endorsements, and that elected officials may have significant influence through their affiliated networks.
Tri-Valley Voice does not endorse candidates.
