Feeding locals who have nowhere to go is significant at one of the most emotional times of the year. Harvard University points out how out of hand holiday emotions can become.
The holidays intensify feelings across the spectrum, according to Dr. Ann Epstein, clinical instructor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
“On one hand, they magnify the feelings of anxiety, depression, and family discord that make holiday gatherings hard,” Epstein said in the report. “On the other hand, for people who thrive on family contact and love to connect, they can be really fun.”
What Epstein does not discuss is those who have no one to laugh with. OpGov.ai hopes this report will reach all who may not have a place to go on Thanksgiving by letting them know there is a place waiting for them to enter, especially for veterans.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7824 will serve free meals to veterans and their families at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at 400 N. Andresen Road, Vancouver.

"Post 7824 is more than a meeting place; it's a hub of support, connection, and action," according to the post website. "From hosting local events to assisting those in need, we are committed to uplifting and empowering our veteran community."
OpGov.ai's search for Vancouver turned up many nearby Portland businesses that also offer a free feast for residents, which is surely open to Vancouver residents as well.
