River City Church heats things up on a cold Vancouver Christmas day, hosting a free tamale lunch. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2400 E Fourth Plain Blvd. The free holiday dinner is offered by drive-thru or delivery. For any resident who needs a dinner delivered, call (360) -836-0639 or visit here.
The local church makes it possible to live the true spirit of the holiday by seeking volunteers for a couple of hours.
“Experience the joy of giving back on Christmas by serving a delicious, warm lunch to hundreds of people in our community! Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or it’s your first time, we welcome you with open arms – and it’s a great opportunity for your whole family to serve together," according to the website. "Come be a part of something truly special, and let’s make this holiday unforgettable for those in need!”

Monetary donations and new toy donations are accepted at all locations. Share Holiday Gift program offers a variety of ways to help and be helped this Christmas season.
“You can help in a variety of ways: Adopt-a-Family, Giving Tree, donate new gifts for Share’s Holiday Party, donate items for holiday food boxes or make a financial contribution," according to the website.
The drive notes specific items in need include all sizes of clothing for men, women, teens, and children; housewares including dishes, pots and pans, towels, linens; personal hygiene items such as soap, lotion, perfume, cologne, combs, and sleeping bags.
And of course, age-appropriate gifts and toys for teens, children, and infants, as well as board games for all ages. Gift cards from any grocery store, clothing store, music store, movie theater, etc., as well as gas cards, are also wonderful gifts.

Each year, Share relies on the generosity of our community to adopt hundreds of families in our ASPIRE/transitional housing program and our Housing & Essential Needs (HEN) program.
"It’s simple: you will receive a list of gift items requested by the family; you purchase the items and deliver them to Share," the group reports.

The Salvation Army needs sponsors for the 2025 Adopt-A-Family and Angel Tree programs this season.
“The Adopt-A-Family program supports families experiencing some sort of crisis, by connecting them to the generosity and kindness of our sponsors who provide food, toiletries, clothing, and toys, bringing a hopeful Christmas to a family. All of our families have been referred to us from a partnering agency in Clark County,” Vancouver Salvation Army website reports.

“Every year, families come to us because they are unable to provide gifts for their children at Christmas. Many times, it is caused by unemployment, medical reasons, or other hardships, according to the website. "By sponsoring an Angel Tree, you will be part of making a child's Christmas that much MERRIER and BRIGHTER!”
