On Sunday, Oct 11, the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation held its annual run for education, an event it has hosted for 44 years. More than 5,000 community members took part, filling the streets with runners, walkers and families.
The Tri-Valley Voice team attended the run and spoke with many of the participants. The team also handed out copies of the newspaper to community members who completed the run. For some of the participants, the run has become a family tradition.
“I have been doing this for the past 6 years since I moved to San Ramon. Our entire family joins this event,” said Srini, who was taking part in the run.
The money raised goes straight back to local classrooms. The Foundation uses the proceeds to improve kits and equipment, and to supply the books and materials needed in elementary school classes. The total amount raised this year is not yet known.
The 10K route has stayed largely the same over the years, with only small changes to the path because of development around the core of the city. The run started at Charlotte Wood Middle School in Danville and finished at Iron Horse Middle School.

The event began early, at 8:00 am, and carried on until about 11:00 am, when the crowd started to leave.
