(SACRAMENTO, CA.) — A late-night domestic violence call in South Sacramento turned into a five-hour standoff on Tuesday, ending with the arrest of a 36-year-old man who, despite ample opportunities, declined repeated invitations to come outside.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office social media post, deputies responded around 10:45 p.m. after an adult female reported that her boyfriend, identified as Andrew Reed, had allegedly physically assaulted her and pointed a firearm at her. Reed—who, to this reporter, bears a striking resemblance to a young Tim Curry—is also the father of the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, who was inside the home during the subsequent standoff.

Deputies quickly established a perimeter and attempted to call Reed out of the residence. Reed, however, appeared committed to staying indoors. The suspect's mother was also reportedly inside the residence during the incident. While social media commenters called for charges regarding her refusal to exit, authorities have not confirmed any arrests related to her actions that night.
With a child in the residence and tensions high, the Sheriff’s Office called in its Critical Incident Negotiation Team and Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT). Negotiators spent more than five hours attempting to resolve the situation peacefully—an effort that eventually gained much public attention due to the Sheriff's Office's cinematic video recap.
The public response to the standoff was a mix of humor regarding Reed’s appearance and frustration over the family’s alledged refusal to cooperate:
"5 hours and never once did that man think 'maybe I should put on some pants'?? lol" — Jessica G.
"Man bun? Well that answers A LOT of questions right there...LOL!" — John H.
"I hope you hooked up his mother as well. She needs to have consequences for disobeying a lawful order & whatever else she can be charged with." — Renee T.
"Give your social media manager a raise. Great song choice! 🤘🏻🎸" — Natalie R.
After securing an arrest warrant, SWAT personnel breached the front door and entered the home, taking Reed into custody without incident. Despite the high stakes, no injuries were reported.
Reed was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple charges, including domestic violence, child endangerment, felon in possession of a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon. Bail has been set at $1 million.
Authorities did not say what finally convinced Reed to come out, but after a long night of 'antici... pation,' SWAT decided it was time to do the Time Warp right through his front door.
Reed is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Submit Sacramento County tips and story ideas to Sarah Denos at sarahkdenos@gmail.com.
