(PORTLAND, OR.) —The Portland area has a wide array of activities for your summer.

Movies in the Parks are a summer tradition of the Portland area. These family-friendly, free outdoor screenings are held across neighborhood parks with free popcorn and pre-movie entertainment. Screenings are subtitled.

Next is the 46th Annual Cathedral Park Jazz Festival.
The event is free but there will be opportunities to support the festival through cash donations and purchasing drinks from the beer and wine garden. You might also want to check out the VIP Experience. There will be food carts on site, with a range of choices. Bringing a chair or blanket is encouraged.

“Come celebrate the melting pot of styles that make jazz and jazz-adjacent music come alive in Portland at the 2026 Cathedral Park Jazz Festival; a free, all-ages festival celebrating jazz and black diasporic music in the historic St, John’s neighborhood in North Portland,” jazzoregon.org said.
When: The event will be July 17 to 19 with the first performance by Sleeper Wave at 4:30 p.m.

This August Mt. Tabor Park will host the 27th Annual Portland Adult Soapbox Derby.
Teams build cars to race down the course. Prizes for various categories are awarded after the race at the After Party and Awards Ceremony.

Finally, for those willing to travel down the road a little, the Oregon State Fair will be in Salem from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7. Enjoy rides, delicious food, art, and music. Everyone is sure to find something to enjoy.
