(SAN RAMON, CA) - The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education opened the new school year by recognizing three students for national achievements during their August 18 board meeting.
Junior Anadita Upadhyaya of Monte Vista High School was recognized as the 2026 House International Champion in Congressional Debate. Upadhyaya earned the title at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Richmond, Virginia, where she competed against 456 students from across the country.

Dougherty Valley High School senior Saisha Pal was recognized after being selected by California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond as one of two California delegates to the 63rd National Youth Science Camp.
Pal was recognized for her work in STEM research, including research evaluating large language models, as well as her leadership in several student organizations.

And last but not least, the board recognized San Ramon Valley High School student Faaris Amin for competing with Team NorCal at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota.

Amin earned two gold medals in tennis at the national competition, winning both the singles and doubles events. He competed alongside thousands of athletes from all over the nation, with his games being broadcast on ESPN.
The board highlighted the students’ accomplishments as examples of the achievements of SRVUSD students in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities, and athletics, with their achievements being a testament to the level of grit and dedication they devote to their respective activities.
