(JACKSON, N.J.) — A 25-year-old ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township has been temporarily shut down after a fatal accident on a ride in Georgia.
The Nitro roller coaster, which opened in April 2001, has been temporarily closed after an accident on the Goliath roller coaster left one individual dead and several others injured on Monday, October 12.

Nitro features a 215-foot drop and hits a top speed of 80 mph. There have been no reported deaths or injuries on the ride, and it has only been temporarily shut down once in its 25 years of operation. In 2014, the ride was closed after passengers were stuck on the first hill due to a power outage.

After curating witness and employee statements, the police preliminarily found that Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, was ejected from the Goliath roller coaster and struck other individuals before falling to the bottom of the ride. Kariem was found beneath the ride unresponsive.
The Goliath reportedly reaches 200 feet high and 70 mph. Investigators are still investigating the accident, and the Georgia park is closed but is set to reopen on Friday.
Six Flags has now temporarily closed nine rides across six different parks due to the similarity of the Goliath roller coaster, including Jackson’s Nitro.
