(SAN RAMON, CA) — A quiet San Ramon neighborhood was turned upside down this Wednesday, August 26, when a shooting inside a home left one resident dead and another rushed to the hospital. This incident has drawn a large-scale response from Contra Costa County’s sheriff deputies.
The emergency began shortly after 1:00 PM, when deputies raced to a home on the 1800 block of Bollinger Canyon Road in response to a dispatch. Once inside the house, officers arrived at a troubling scene of first responders scrambling to assist a female resident suffering from a gunshot wound as they quickly worked to secure the premises. Medical crew later informed that she had been rendered in critical condition before she had been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, while clearing the rest of the property, deputies discovered a second resident. This resident had seemingly passed on scene due to a gunshot wound, however, officials have yet to release a statement clarifying the persons involved or an update of the victims’ medical statuses.
Investigators, in an attempt to calm the nerves of nearby citizens, emphasized that the neighborhood was not in any significant danger. In an official statement, Contra Costa County’s Sheriff’s Office noted, “Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime lab personnel are continuing to investigate this incident.” Department officials added, stating, “Currently, there are no outstanding suspects and no threat to the community.” Local reporters corroborated that sheriff spokesperson Jimmy Lee confirmed the initial response, and that ongoing efforts to investigate the crime will continue.
Forensic specialists and detectives worked late into the evening in an attempt to collect evidence, speak with neighbors, and potentially piece together what transpired that afternoon. While law enforcement has not officially commented on a possible motive or the exact relationship between the two residents, official statements from the Sheriff’s Office state that there are “no outstanding suspects,’ indicating the incident was likely contained entirely within the home. This self-contained assessment meant that deputies did not need to initiate neighborhood perimeters or broad search grid sweeps, which explains any current lack of widespread surveillance in the neighborhood following this incident.
