Empowering communities through transparent governance
(PENSACOLA) --- You couldn't escape the Zen energy of Sherri Myers last night, even if you wanted to.
The former Pensacola councilwoman managed to get elected officials not only to laugh, but to smile, which was a nice moment.
However, that was not her tone three weeks ago, when she vulnerably shared her childhood story of abuse in a daycare center. Her voice was angry then, but not last night. Her tone was calm, really calm, actually, when she again stated eliminating the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and its connection to the Escambia Children's Trust.
“I still suffer from a lot of anxiety and trauma relating to what happened to me when I was a child,” Myers said. “That was what motivated me to happily support the resolution, asking that the county allow the public to vote on taxing, to collect money for the Children's Trust Fund.”
OpGov.ai captured her three-minute comment into a few sentences as you read below.

Former Councilwoman Sheri Myers is an excellent example of how to approach the public podium
Myers, “expressed concerns about the accountability of the Children's Trust Fund, specifically opposing the CRA (city or county) managing the funds, citing the 'reimagine Palafox' project as an example of potential misuse.”
As noted in her exact words above, the summary ends by stating Myers, “shared that her personal childhood trauma motivated her support for the fund but emphasized a desire for peaceful resolution.”
I sat next to Myers last night before she got back up to the podium to reiterate that the resolution and ballot measure should be respected as originally created in 2020, rather than have funds hijacked for city purposes.
There really was something different about her than three weeks ago.

Former Councilwoman Sheri Myers proves her point peacefully, letting officials know peace is truly all that matters to her at the end of the day
She was as Zen next to me as she was when she stepped up to the podium.
Most would be nervous, even scared to get back up and face the dais they were once on the other side of, pleading their personal life to explain why they made a decision years ago to allow the CRA funds to flow.
Not Myers.
“I'm not going to let this issue ruin my peaceful day,” Myers said.
She then reflected on the past that brought her to the present moment at the podium. Rather than blame elected officials, Myers accepted her part in the present matter.
“Had I known that when I sponsored that, I would have said, ' Oh no,” Myers said before adding a Zen closing. “I would just like to say, in closing now, that you all be well, happy, and peaceful.”
Needless to say, I personally look forward to seeing her fight back in peace, proving mankind can reach an honest resolution for the good of all.
