(SACRAMENTO, CA.) — Missing the voter registration deadline doesn’t mean being left out of the upcoming election. According to Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections, starting Tuesday, May 19, Sacramento County residents can take advantage of Conditional Voter Registration (CVR), often called "Same Day Registration." While the standard deadline to register online or by mail expires at midnight on Monday, May 18, the CVR process allows eligible citizens to register and vote in person right up through Election Day on June 2.
How it Works
OpGov.news reports eligible residents can head to the Voter Registration and Elections (VRE) Office (7000 65th Street, Suite A) or any Vote Center to complete a registration form. Once the paperwork is filled out, a representative will provide a CVR provisional ballot. Voters must complete and submit this ballot at the same time and location where it is received. Once the VRE office processes the registration and verifies eligibility, the ballot is officially counted.
Important Dates to Watch
As the county gears up for June 2, here are the key milestones for local voters:
* May 18: Final day for standard registration (must be postmarked or submitted online by midnight).
* May 19: Conditional Voter Registration begins.
* May 23: 11-Day Vote Centers open for in-person services.
* May 26: Last day to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot be sent to your home.
* May 30: All Vote Centers throughout the county open.
* June 2: Election Day.
Resources for Voters
Residents who aren’t sure of their current status can use the My Voter Portal app on the county website to check their registration. For those who need assistance, the VRE provides a toll-free hotline at (800) 762-8019, which includes TTY services for voters with disabilities. Local inquiries can also be directed to (916) 875-6451. For more information, visit Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections. Voted ballots can also be returned at any time to the Official Ballot Drop Boxes located throughout the county.
