Empowering communities through transparent governance
(SACRAMENTO, CA) — A major month-long crackdown on human trafficking along the Stockton Boulevard corridor has resulted in over 100 arrests and the recovery of dozens of victims, officials announced this week in a Sacramento Police Department Facebook post.
The operation, timed to coincide with Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January, was a coordinated effort between the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force. The task force includes local, state, and federal agencies, such as the California Department of Justice and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
Over 16 days of targeted enforcement, authorities utilized a "problem-oriented" policing strategy to disrupt the local sex trade. The results were significant:
-121 arrests made.
-41 victims recovered and connected with advocacy services.
-9 traffickers identified.
-220 proactive stops conducted.
“In Sacramento County, we have made it clear that traffickers—especially those who exploit children—will be held accountable,” said District Attorney Thien Ho.
The operation relied heavily on a trauma-informed approach, with advocacy groups like Community Against Sexual Harm and My Sister’s House on the ground to provide immediate support to survivors. California Attorney General Rob Bonta emphasized that tackling the "buyer-driven demand" is essential to dismantling these criminal networks.
Beyond the arrests, the Sacramento Police Department says it is doubling down on long-term prevention. This includes expanded patrols, youth education programs, and ongoing partnerships with the Stockton Boulevard Partnership to improve safety and quality of life for residents and local businesses.
