Empowering communities through transparent governance
(ALBUQUERQUE) Election Night proved to be a close race among candidates vying to become the next mayor.
OpGov.ai has its eye on the polls for the runoff against Mayor Tim Keller and challenger Darren White.
Keller received 46,991 votes, 36% of the vote, and White received 40,783 votes, 31%, triggering a runoff election on Dec 9.
Out of the race are Louie Sanchez and Mayling Armijo, who both received 6% of the vote, and Eddie Varela, with 2%, and Daniel Chavez, with 1%.
Polling numbers were obtained by Albuquerque’s NBC Affiliate KOB4 Eyewitness News’ website.
According to Keller’s campaign website, Tim brings focus and passion to making a safer, innovative, and inclusive city.

Keller’s accomplishments are redefining emergency response by creating a nationally recognized, first-of-its-kind Community Safety Department and investing over $200 million in new parks, libraries, housing, splash pads, streetlights, road repairs, and community centers in underserved and historic neighborhoods.
OPGOV.ai is also keeping a close eye on Darren White, who comes in second, according to the election results that came in on election night, making him incumbent Tim Keller’s opponent.

White is a former Sheriff of Bernalillo County, New Mexico, who was first elected in 2002 and then re-elected in 2006. Before becoming sheriff, White was Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Public Safety during Former Governor Gary Johnson’s administration.
White's website touts "Darren will unshackle the police department, giving officers the support and tools they need to enforce the law and clean up our streets," and "he will end Mayor Keller’s Sanctuary City law for criminals and fight to end Catch and Release."
Both candidates want to make the State of New Mexico safe again as the Mayor of Albuquerque.
Social media seems to be anxious for a final tally, with one commentator asking, “Why do we have to wait a month […] just do it next week!"
