(ROSEVILLE, CA.) — A Roseville animal cruelty investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old woman and the rescue of four dogs found in poor health conditions, according to the Roseville Police Department’s Facebook post.
On May 22, Roseville Animal Control officers and patrol officers responded to a residence on Oak Tree Drive after receiving reports of four abandoned dogs that appeared malnourished and lacked adequate access to food and water.
During the investigation, officers contacted the dogs' owner, Melissa Blalock, 43. Inside the residence, officers discovered one dog suffering from an apparent injury that caused the animal to limp. Investigators also determined the home's condition was unsuitable for the proper care and welfare of animals.
Based on the findings, Blalock was arrested and booked into the South Placer County Jail on charges of felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor failure to provide animal care. The injured dog was taken into protective custody and transported for immediate veterinary treatment.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned that four dogs had originally been involved in the case. Working alongside Animal Control and patrol personnel, investigators launched a search for the remaining animals.
Their efforts led authorities to a residence in Sacramento, where detectives served a search warrant and located the three missing dogs. According to police, the animals were found in similarly poor health conditions and were also taken into protective custody for veterinary evaluation and care.
Roseville police credited the successful outcome to the coordinated efforts of Animal Control officers, patrol officers, and detectives who worked together to locate the animals and ensure their safety.
"This case demonstrates the dedication and teamwork of our Animal Control Officers, Patrol Officers, and Detectives," the department said in a statement. "Their collaborative efforts reflect our ongoing mission to protect the most vulnerable members of our community—both people and animals."
