(PLEASANTON, CA.) - Pleasanton police are investigating the deaths of two people found inside a home on Jefferson Court on August 26.
According to the Pleasanton Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at approximately 7:16 p.m. in the 4600 block of Jefferson Court after a nearby tenant reported being unable to reach neighbors for several days.
Upon arrival, officers entered the home and found a deceased female with gunshot wounds. In a separate room, officers located a deceased male with a gunshot wound. A handgun was found next to the male, according to police. Both individuals appeared to have died at least several days earlier, police said.
The deceased were identified as 64-year-old Shelly Wang and 39-year-old Evgeniy Ilin. According to police, Wang was the owner of the home and had been renting a room to Ilin.
Police are investigating the incident as a potential murder-suicide. Investigators have not released a possible motive.
According to Pleasanton Police Department Lieutenant Brandon Stocking, the tenant appears to have killed his landlord and then himself.
The department said investigators believe the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
Stocking told OpGov.News that the department is working with a crime lab and the coroner's office on the case, with more information delayed at least two weeks, if it will be released at all.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100. The investigation is still ongoing.
