(PENSACOLA) --- The Pensacola Police Department has always honored its fallen members.
Those are Officer Mike Wood’s exact words.

“The families of our fallen attend each year,” Wood told OpGov.News. “We hope to make sure they know we, and our community, will never forget the sacrifice their loved one made to our city and its residents.”
The decades-long service resumes on May 12 at 9 a.m. at 711 N. Hayes St., with an open invitation to community members.

“It’s important to honor these officers and their families,” Wood said. “Current officers attend these services, and it gives them a moment to reflect on their jobs and the sacrifices those before them have made.”
Last year, “those before them” were honored in a tribute to 17 fallen soldiers.

“We appreciate the help of the media each year to cover this service because it brings the service to those who could not attend,” Wood said.
