(TOMS RIVER, N.J.) --- A 64-year-old grandfather has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide following a boating crash that claimed the lives of his two grandchildren.
On Fri., August 14, Stephen Schneider was charged with two counts of reckless vessel homicide, operating a vessel under the influence and reckless operation of a vessel.
On July 19, in the evening hours, Schneider was operating a boat in Barnegat Bay and collided with a channel marker. Laurie Schneider, 64, and the two grandchildren, Mya Golbek, 9, and Sigmund Golbek, 7, were all on board when the collision occurred.
The impact caused both children to be thrown into the water, where they later succumbed to their injuries from the accident.
Both children were described as not only siblings but best friends.

After an investigation, it was determined that Schneider was intoxicated while operating the vehicle. The prosecution has yet to release any additional information or evidence to support the charges.
