Arrests at the Portland ICE Facility have been few in the last days.
A Portland Police Department Incident Command Team used no force on any protesters as seen in the last couple of weeks, according to a press release Thursday Oct., 16.
“PPB members did not observe any person or property crimes that warranted interdiction” the PPD reports.
OpGov.ai contacted Councilor Olivia Clark’s office for comment. Her aide Jimmy Radosta provided the Oct. 14 press release.
"This farce defies common sense,” Clark said, adding the federal government is wasting tax dollars, violating the Constitution, and terrorizing nearby residents and neighborhoods.
"Our joint resolution clarifies Portland values in the face of this unwelcome attack,” Clark added.
OpGov.ai reports that “multiple individuals repeatedly shouted slogans like 'ICE continues to terrorize our community,' 'revoke the ICE permit,' 'shut it down,' and 'stop the kidnapping.'"
Councilor Candace Avalos said the Protect Portland Initiative is a way to organize the City's efforts to protect our most vulnerable communities during a time of unprecedented federal cruelty.
“We modeled it off the Protect Chicago Executive Order, it gives us the right platform to join a national conversation about organizing our efforts collectively as cities and states,” Avalos said.
“It is my hope this is the first step toward a growing movement across the country to uphold our rights and responsibilities to the communities we serve,” Avalos added.

These interruptions significantly disrupted roll call and council discussions, leading to multiple warnings, recesses, and ultimately, their removal from the chambers, according
to OpGov.ai, adding that their comments consistently focused on the demand for the council to take action against the ICE facility.

"I'm proud to represent District 3 as a co-sponsor of this resolution, "Lane said. "I want to remind us all that while we work hard to protect Portland in every way possible, we must not lose sight of what's at stake here: we are fighting to defend democracy for ourselves, our entire state, and our entire country."
Government officials note “among its many provisions, the resolution will task the city administration with gathering information on how the federal government is enforcing its policies and if they're surveilling Portlanders.”
Additionally, the initiative “also instructs the administration to convene community partners to develop rapid response plans for immigration raids and extends state and city sanctuary policies to city contractors.”
Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney said she intends “to use every tool I have to stand up for our community in the face of a federal administration that is hell-bent on singling out Portland in their attempts to drive our country backwards.”
"This resolution is yet another way that we will stand up against their attacks on the incredible progress our city has made. We will defend our neighbors, and we will do so in solidarity with one another,” according to the council president.
Newsweek reports that Reverend David Black of the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago forgives and confronts federal enforcement.
"As I was praying for them, they opened fire on me," Black said.
"As a Christian and as a minister of the grace and mercy of God and the beneficiary of that grace and mercy, I forgive these ICE officers, and as an American citizen and a neighbor to my neighbors, I need them to be held to account," Black said.
"PPB has made a total of 49 arrests in the South Waterfront area since the nightly protests began in early June," according to PBB.
