(NEW YORK, NY.) – New York’s tech talent now exceeds San Francisco’s by nearly 5%, according to a new CBRE study, but it still has a long way to go if it wants to become America’s new tech leader.
AI’s rapid national expansion has created a need for more talent, and New York's large financial sector requires a lot of it. Banks require software engineers and developers, AI professionals, data analysts, network engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and more.
Not all jobs are new jobs, however. Some existing workers have been transitioned into AI roles within New York companies as needs have shifted, increasing the number of tech workers without creating new jobs.

While New York now has the most tech workers overall, thanks in part to AI, Silicon Valley still boasts more workers in the AI field. Four major tech markets now hold around 37% of all US AI-specialty talent: San Francisco, New York, D.C., and Seattle.
The upswing in talent in New York has made one thing clear: Silicon Valley has competition.
