(MINNESOTA) – The Republican and Democratic primaries for both Governor and Senate are over, and the votes have been tallied. Lisa Demuth (GOP) and Amy Klobuchar (DFL) will square off in the race for Governor, while Penny Flanagan (DFL) and Michele Tafoya (GOP) fight for the open Senate seat.
Minnesota House Speaker and gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth’s closest competitor going into the primary was former MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. Some sources speculate that controversy regarding gifts Lindell gave while campaigning and questions regarding his residency status in Minnesota could have contributed to the loss.

Senator Amy Klobuchar was largely considered to be running unopposed in the Democratic primary, and her popularity proved evident when she received almost 90% of the vote. Klobuchar’s closest competitor in the race was Kobey Layne, who received a mere 5.76% of the vote.
In the Republican Senate primary, former NFL Reporter and political podcast host Michele Tafoya received over half as many votes as her top two competitors, Adam Schwarze and Royce White, despite not receiving the GOP endorsement. If Tafoya wins, it will be the first time a Republican has held a Minnesota Senate seat since Norm Coleman was elected in 2002.

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Penny Flanagan won the Democratic primary, giving her a chance to make history by becoming the first Native American woman to hold the position. Flanagan and Angie Craig were considered equally matched going into the primary, but in the end Flanagan received approximately 20% more votes.
The winning candidates for each party in the Gubernatorial and Senatorial primaries will face off on Election Day, November 3.
