(MINNESOTA) The Minnesota Gubernatorial Race has been reduced to four potential candidates: Lisa Demuth (GOP), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (DFL), Mike Lindell (GOP), and Kendall Qualls (GOP). Candidate Qualls won the GOP endorsement, but Demuth and Lindell still have an equal chance of winning the Aug. 11 primary and becoming the final GOP representative.
Despite Demuth’s original claim that she would forfeit and leave the Race if another candidate won the GOP endorsement, she is continuing on. The bid for Governor is heating up and all candidates have now chosen a potential Lieutenant Governor.
Demuth selected Ryan Wilson, an attorney and former businessman. Sen. Klobuchar selected former Fergus Falls Mayor Ben Shierer. Phillip Parrish, who originally started as a gubernatorial candidate, is now Lindell’s running mate. Qualls selected another businessman, Brian Nicholson, as his running mate; neither individual has experience in politics.

Candidate Qualls criticized Demuth for not backing out as promised, stating the party will end up competing against each other while Sen. Klobuchar is free to campaign without any opposition, a move many Republicans see as a waste of money. Many see the criticism of Demuth as an attempt to pivot away from the controversy caused by the moment of silence held for Derek Chauvin during the Minnesota Republican Convention in Duluth May 30.
The three GOP candidates will face off in the Republican Primary, at which point only one will advance forward in the Minn. Gubernatorial Race.
