Empowering communities through transparent governance
(SAN FRANCISCO) -- There is something to be said about a mayor keeping his promise.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Laurie does just that with the recent announcement that the Interfaith Winter Shelter Program and other agencies are expanding their capacity to shelter 80 individuals each evening. The mayor's press office released a statement before Thanksgiving, ensuring more would be sheltered on the holiday.

“This winter, as we continue our work to address the homelessness crisis, we’re expanding shelter capacity so more San Franciscans can have a warm, safe place to sleep,” the mayor said of the rotating shelter will move among five locations, each representing a different faith community, adding 30-80 additional beds per night at San Francisco shelters.
Along San Francisco’s Interfaith Winter Shelter Program, the mayor worked with San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC), and the Episcopal Community Services (ECS) to provide shelter, hot meals, and mobile showers to people experiencing homelessness during the winter months.
“We’ve been working since day one of our administration to address the city’s homelessness and behavioral health crisis, because people struggling on our streets should have the chance to get better," the mayor added. "Our work this winter moves that forward, and we’ll continue making progress every day.”

That move is not new, with Lurie claiming to help the less fortunate in his campaign for town leader. Again, a mayor keeping a campaign promise is applauded by this media outlet. The proof is in the pudding in both his campaign promise directly below followed up by his elected official priority statement.

Along with more beds, the city offers additional free services for those with a completed Access Point application, available here. Individuals receive free Muni passes, a one-time waiver of tow and storage costs, one free “boot” fine pass, and discounted citations.
The mayor said on the government website, the city continues to "work to address the homelessness crisis, we’re expanding shelter capacity so more San Franciscans can have a warm, safe place to sleep."
