(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — A man was convicted of sexual assault charges against a female victim on a Muni bus on August 11, 2026.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said 26-year-old Dasan Warsaialem Brown strangled and attempted to rape and sexually penetrate the victim with a foreign object.

The attack happened on April 26, 2025, on the 29 Sunset bus, near the San Francisco State University campus.
Brown was on probation at the time of the attack after a sexual battery conviction in Contra Costa County earlier in 2025, and failed to register as a sex offender after arriving in San Francisco.

Reports said that the assault occurred when the attacker and victim were the only two people on the bus, at approximately 11:40 pm. Brown approached the woman and asked her for the time before attacking her, and court documents said he strangled her to the point of unconsciousness, continuing the assault after the bus driver tried to intervene.
The bus driver immediately called for help. San Francisco State University Police responded to the scene and detained Brown until San Francisco Police arrived and took him into custody.
“I would like to thank the jury for their time and attention to the evidence in this trial,” Jenkins said. “This verdict reinforces our city’s commitment to holding those who commit acts of sexual violence accountable. We are thankful for the victim’s courage to come forward and trust in our office to obtain justice and accountability.”
Brown was convicted of assault with intent to commit a felony, attempted rape by force or violence or by threat of bodily injury, attempted sexual penetration by foreign object, force and violence, sexual battery by restraint, assault, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, false imprisonment, and vandalism.

Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Gooch successfully prosecuted the case.
“The victim fought hard despite the odds and deserved justice in this case,” Gooch said. “I want to thank the jury for their careful consideration.”
Brown is currently in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for September 3, 2026.
