Empowering communities through transparent governance
(LIVERMORE) The Livermore City Council members welcomed me, ( while the Mayor unavailable as was attending Mayors Conference in DC). as if I were one of their own residents.
Announcing my California Assembly District 16 run against Rebecca Bauer-Kahan from town to town in the District is teaching me so much.
First and foremost, every city needs to realize we are stronger together than apart and start working together to change state-level laws that burden local government, constantly putting elected officials in very precarious positions, to say the least.
With that, I let officials know, as I do during all my announcement stops, that what matters to them matters to me. Now I know a lot of American politicians say that, but I was not born here. I came here because this country offered a dream mine could not.
While I have been successful, the American dream is dead for many reasons, many of which start at the local level.
Why?
Local is the lowest on the totem pole, leaving officials to work with. I want to change that in Livermore and across the entire 16th District, setting the standard for ethical, honest government, which is the only way to dream the dream again.
But first, we must wake up to the present reality and realize we must regain our power, community by community, including Livermore.
This week's agenda deals with serious issues that many citizens don't realize directly affect them.
Take for example this week's staff reccomendations "authorizing the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) for construction of the L Street and Junction Avenue railroad crossings as part of the Rail Safety Enhancement Program – Phase A Project of Alameda CTC and Livermore SM202522, a Construction and Maintenance (C&M) agreement with Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and Alameda CTC for L Street, and a C&M Agreement with UPRR and Alameda CTC for Junction Avenue."
This is a major project that will affect residents in many ways at some point. all on the shoulders of the officials. It's a big task, but together we can do it.

Agenda project map locations regarding construction maintence and more in Livemore, with each agenda item more costly than the next, a pattern seen in local cities.
