(CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif.) – This November 3, Citrus Heights residents are responsible for electing incumbents for council member seats in the city’s Districts 2, 4, and 5. While races for District 2 and 4 council vacancies remain competitive, the District 5 candidate and current Vice Mayor for Citrus Heights, Porsche Middleton, runs unopposed.
District 2 Candidates
After moving to Citrus Heights in 2000, Lopez-Taff has served on the city’s Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist International, the Citrus Heights Women’s Club, and most notably as the current city Mayor. Her campaign is founded on her mission statement: listening, learning, and getting results. Her priorities include working with the Citrus Heights Police in sustaining public safety, improving infrastructure and community beautification, maintaining low taxes, promoting job creation, and supporting the upcoming (and highly controversial) Sunrise Mall project.
Lopez-Taff’s list of endorsements include the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522, the Sacramento Taxpayers Association PAC, State Assemblyman Josh Hoover, Sacramento County Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez, and multiple San Juan School Board leaders.
As a Citrus Heights resident for the past 25 years, Stone’s candidacy leans heavily on his 26 years of service in law enforcement. With an additional 24 years working as an attorney and 19 years serving in the Army, Stone boldly highlights his dedication to public safety. Running on this platform, Stone has argued against recent council decisions to reduce local police staffing. Unlike his opponent, Stone stands against the development of Sunrise Mall. While safety is his primary campaign priority, his focus also includes providing balanced budget management and transparent leadership.
A public list of endorsements has not been released for Charles Stone.
District 4 Candidates
Current councilwoman for District 4, Karpinski-Costa has been a city resident since 1991 and has served on the council since 2004. In addition to her professional background in veterinary medicine and law, Karpinski-Costa is the current city representative on the Sacramento Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District and serves as President of SOAR, a regional nonprofit providing information and communication between local residents and agencies servicing their neighborhoods. Karpinski-Costa’s campaign platform highlights public safety, a resolution to traffic issues, infrastructural improvements without taxation, economic restoration, fiscal prudence, and sustained community involvement.
Karpinski-Costa has published only one endorsement from former Citrus Heights City Manager Henry Tingle.
Local business owner and servant on the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Susan Powers has campaigned on maintaining fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability. As owner of Powers Bookkeeping Service, she highlights how her business background and experience within community volunteer initiatives has shaped her principle of “Service Above Self.” Like other Citrus Heights candidates in the November 3 election, Powers advocates for a better future without discounting current city constituents.
The list of endorsements for the Powers campaign includes the Sacramento County Republican Party, former Citrus Heights city council member Albert Fox, and the Sacramento Taxpayers PAC. Fox has championed Powers as a “fresh perspective” for District 4 and a servant dedicated to honesty and integrity.
