Lead For Earth has been accredited as an Observer Organization to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), marking an important milestone in the organization’s work on land restoration, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, youth leadership, and community-based environmental action.
In simple terms, observer accreditation means that Lead For Earth is now officially recognized by the UNCCD and can take part in its meetings and conferences as a civil society organization. While observers do not make final decisions or vote like governments, they can contribute expertise, share field experiences, participate in discussions, organize side events, and engage with policymakers and other stakeholders.
The accreditation provides Lead For Earth with a formal pathway to engage in UNCCD processes and contribute to international discussions on desertification, land degradation, drought, soil health, food security, and sustainable land management. It also strengthens the organization’s ability to bring community experiences, youth perspectives, and locally led solutions into global environmental policy spaces.
Originally established as Nisarg Foundation Inc year 2020., Lead For Earth has built its work around connecting environmental leadership with practical action. The organization supports initiatives that restore degraded landscapes, strengthen rural livelihoods, improve climate education, promote renewable energy, and advance responsible waste management.
Its portfolio includes regenerative organic farming training through Agro Rangers, ecological restoration in Nashik and Jawhar, climate education and green campus programmes, solar-energy solutions through the Minus CO2 initiative, and youth-led plastic waste management through the Safai Bank https://safaibank.org/. Together, these initiatives have supported farmers, students, local communities, educational institutions, environmental practitioners, and youth leaders across India.
The UNCCD accreditation is particularly significant because land degradation is closely connected to food insecurity, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, rural poverty, and climate vulnerability.
