Key discussions centered on amendments to Chapter 22 of city ordinances to ensure GBI/FBI compliance for privileged business licenses, and several significant financial approvals according to the OpGov.ai platform.

Assistant to City Manager Anna Trapp informed the City Council on the amendments.
“The language that was added is actually very similar to the language that was existing in section 22-9, which walks through what the city does to conduct background checks for these privileged licenses,” Trapp said.
Trapp stated that the GBI advised that the language needs to be included in each article.
“Simply, we took the language in section 22-9 and updated it per the GBI comments and recommendations,” Trapp said.
Multiple resolutions and licenses were brought to the City Council’s attention.
The council approved an interlocal contract for cooperative purchasing, multiple alcohol licenses (including one waiving standard distance requirements for a Kennesaw Mart), and various budget adjustments and facility renovation projects according to the OpGov.ai platform.

Fiscal year budgets for 2025 were discussed by Kennesaw Director of Finance and Administration Jennifer Gordy.
According to Gordy, Group Insurance went over budget, while transfers from general funds were used to support museums, gardens, and street lights.
Opioid and hotel/motel’s budget was increased because they collected more money than anticipated.
Public comments were heard after resolutions were approved.

Owner of Conversation Landscaping, Steven Luitjens, described the benefits of using native plants for infrastructure.
“Native plants manage storm water by enabling the soil to absorb rainfall where it falls,” Luitjens said. “Their deep root systems stabilize soil, improve drainage, and filter pollutants before they enter our water.”
Resident Christopher Deamer paid his respects to the city of Kennesaw and requested a sanitary sewer easement through Fairfax Park.

“The proposed easement would extend approximately 30 feet from our property to an existing sewer manhole,” Deamer said. “We are requesting a 6-to 12-foot sanitary sewer easement.”
Deamer added that without the easement, he and his wife would have to replace their septic system at a high cost. Their property has limited space for a new septic tank.
City Council informed Deamer that someone would reach out to assist with the easement.
