(PENSACOLA) --- There is no better name for the project than Nehemiah.

The first-person book in the Bible tells of Nehemiah’s call to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
That tale remains here today with J.U.S.T Pensacola (Justice United Seeking Transformation), a non-profit made up of various religious organizations, which has an annual four-step process: listen, research, act, and follow up.
Mental health, criminal justice, and affordable housing are the mission. This Tuesday, the group gathers at First Baptist Church of Washington to address community mental health.
“Because this is what God requires of us, not just to care, but to act,” the group website reports. “And now, with the support of the Mental Health Task Force of Northwest Florida, JUST Pensacola is leading the way to expand awareness and access to life-saving resources by strengthening 211 and 988 helplines.”
Former Councilwoman Sherri Myers became aware of J.U.S.T Pensacola while on the council.

“The group was working on affordable housing, and I was so impressed with their sincerity and organizational abilities,” Myers said.
That work hasn’t stopped.
In 2025, affordable housing became more available due to the group’s dedication. The group reports in February, “Pensacola Habitat for Humanity formally requested 9 of the 16 parcels for the County to donate to the NW Community Land Trust,” according to the group website.
“We await the County Commissioners’ vote of approval, anticipating that all 9 parcels will be donated to the Community Land Trust for both permanent home ownership as well as rental builds,” the group adds.
There is no prerequisite to attend Tuesday’s meeting at 6 p.m.
“You don’t have to be affiliated with one of the churches,” Myers said, adding that the only mandate is a motive for change. “I believe strongly in their mission of justice for all.”
As Myers said, the event at 18 S. Merritt St. fills up quickly.

“I recommend getting there early to find a parking place,” Myers said.

And most of all.
"O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant... Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man." — Nehemiah 1:11
