It’s Time for a Fresh Perspective

Experience matters, but so does knowing when it is time for a new perspective.  My opponent  has served on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board since 2006. After nearly 20 years, our community deserves a serious conversation about the future: Are we ready for new ideas, fresh energy, and a renewed focus on the challenges facing our students today?

Joel Woods believes it is time for a change:

Our schools are facing challenges that require us to think differently. We need stronger support for teachers, better resources for special education and English language learners, expanded mental-health services, safe and well-managed classrooms, and a board that actively looks for grants and other resources to support these priorities.

Fresh leadership does not mean throwing away everything that works. It means being willing to ask whether we can do better.

Joel Woods wants teachers to have a real seat at the table when curriculum and instructional decisions are made.  Joel Woods aims to give parents a voice and ensure struggling students receive timely support before challenges escalate into crises. Joel Woods supports discipline policies that provide both accountability and support, and Joel Woods believes the district should aggressively pursue grant opportunities to bring additional resources into our classrooms.  Joel Woods respects the experience that comes from long service, but experience should never mean being satisfied with the status quo.

After two decades, it is reasonable for voters to ask: What new ideas are being brought forward? What problems still need to be solved? And who is willing to challenge the status quo?

Joel Woods is ready to do that.

It is about looking forward.  Our children deserve a school board prepared for the next decade—not simply one continuing the approach of the last two decades.
