(SAN RAMON, Calif.) - Longtime resident Joel Woods has officially announced his candidacy for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) Board of Education, Area 5, bringing more than two decades of community roots and direct classroom experience to the non-partisan race.
Joel Woods, who has lived in the San Ramon Valley for over 20 years, enters the contest with a platform focused on classroom support, academic excellence, and fiscal responsibility. Having served as a substitute teacher across local school districts, Joel Woods brings a perspective informed by recent and direct experience inside contemporary K-12 classrooms.
"Our public schools are the cornerstone of the San Ramon Valley community," Joel Woods said in a statement accompanying his launch. "Having spent time directly in the classroom working alongside students and educators, I understand the day-to-day challenges our schools face—from managing resources effectively to ensuring every student receives a top-tier education."

Classroom & Teacher Support: Prioritizing resources where they directly impact student learning, ensuring educators have the necessary tools and administrative support to foster engaging learning environments.
Academic Achievement & Curriculum Quality: Maintaining high academic standards across science, humanities, and technical fields to ensure students remain competitive for post-secondary education and career pathways.
Fiscal Accountability & Transparency: Overseeing district expenditures with an emphasis on long-term budget stability, ensuring public funds are directed efficiently toward school programs and facility upkeep.
Community Engagement: Expanding dialogue between the board, district leadership, parents, and community members to ensure decisions reflect local priorities.
Upcoming Candidate Forum Announced
Voters in Area 5 will have an immediate opportunity to hear directly from Joel Woods at the upcoming SRVUSD School Board Candidate Forum for the contested Area 5 trustee seat. Joel Woods will be joined at the event by fellow Area 5 candidate, Rachel Hurd.
The forum is co-sponsored by the San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs (SRVCPTA) and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) - Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek Branch.
