Empowering communities through transparent governance
(JERSEY CITY) -- James Solomon is Jersey City's new mayor.
The AP called it at 10:16 p.m., shutting down James McGreevey's comeback campaign. Last night's run-off election proved that the Nov. 4 results were just a slight delay to the ultimate choice. The councilman's campaign far outweighted a former governor, senator, and assemblyman like James McGreevey.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, seems to be apparent here.
McGreevy resigned from the Garden State Governor's Mansion after it was made pubic he was having an extramarital affair with a man in 2004.
I recall writing this report a month ago, finding my lead sentence ironic: Seven Candidates and still no winner in the 2025 Jersey City Mayor's race. Along with McGreevey and Solomon, Bill O’Dea, Mussab Ali, Christina Freeman, Kalki Jayne-Rose, and Jersey City Council President Joyce Watterman ran for mayor.
As a Jersey resident, with my mother, Janice Nitti, born and raised in Jersey City, I had a vested interest in this race. With two decades of journalism under my belt, specifically covering Toms River, New Jersey for Gannett from 2005 to 2008, I know local government politics.
As Toms River's first Public Information Officer, when Chris Christie was running for governor, I was full-out political. I also covered the Illinois General Assembly when Governor Bruce Rauner was challenged by Jeanne Ives in the gubernatorial primary, which you can read here.
Rauner won. Then Rauner lost to J.B. Pritzker.
With that, even I assumed experience would beat out character in the end.

It didn't.
For this, I am thankfully wrong. OpGov.ai wishes Solomon a successful administration.
