(PLEASANTON, CA.) – Beginning on June 19, the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton will host its 87th Alameda County Fair.
This fair was first brought to life over a century ago in 1912, in the same location in which it will be hosted this year.
However, it was not originally as much of a success as it has been in recent years.
Due to this, it was cancelled after just two years of existence, and did not return until 1939.
According to Visittrivalley.com, the revival of the fair can be attributed to local businessmen who used their own funds to repair the grounds, the legalization of betting on horses at public venues and race tracks, and the publication of its first year back in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Much of its newfound success came from the profit it made from its racetrack and people betting on horse racing events held there.

Other cities, such as San Ramon, CA., also feature animals in their celebrations and events. In this case, the event features sheep.
In modern times, the fair hosts many more attractions than it did originally.
These include carnival rides for both children and adults, many food trucks and vendors, various competitions, wine tasting, movies, concerts and more.
Sacramento, CA., recently secured a number of large music events for their future by approving a 10-year agreement that keeps music festivals at Discovery park through 2035.
There will also be vendors selling things like handmade jewelry and other crafts or trinkets.

The fair will run from June 19 to July 12, opening at 12pm and closing at 11pm. It will not be open at all on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Though still opening and closing at the same time, the fair’s hours on July 4 are slightly different.
On that date, the Admission Gates Close at 5pm and parking closes at 4:30pm. There will be a special fireworks show at 9:30pm to celebrate the 4th of July.
Season passes, carnival wristbands, and tickets for general admission, parking, concerts and wine fest can be purchased here. Tickets purchased through June 18 have discounted prices.
The main entrances to the fair are gates 8 and 12 off of Valley Avenue, with the fair itself located on Bernal Avenue at Valley Avenue in Pleasanton.

Speaking from experience, it can get quite hot on the fairgrounds. This makes hydration and sunscreen important considerations while attending the fair.
Fortunately, fairgoers are permitted to bring food and drinks into the fair, so long as they comply with the full guidelines here.
Additionally, there are water fountains around the fairgrounds for people to drink from or fill their bottles.
Other general rules to be aware of are these:
Only service animals trained to support a person with a disability are permitted
Smoking is prohibited
Drones are prohibited unless the owner has prior written consent to fly one
Fireworks, mace, pepper spray, and cannabis products of any kind are prohibited
Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards and similar items are prohibited
Flasks are prohibited
