(FREMONT, CA) - Downtown Fremont was filled with color, music and community spirit this weekend as the Festival of India Mela and Parade returned for a two-day celebration of Indian Independence Day and Indian-American culture.

The 2026 Festival of India took place Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, with festivities running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The event, organized by the Federation of Indo-Americans of Northern California and Festival of Globe, featured cultural performances, food, vendors, community organizations, and the annual India Day Parade.
The centerpiece of the weekend was the 34th annual FOG India Day Parade, which stepped off Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The parade brought together colorful floats, cultural organizations, dancers, and community groups in a public celebration of India’s 80th Independence Day.

The event also came during a historic year for the United States, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. Festival organizers highlighted both milestones throughout their Independence Day celebrations, emphasizing the connection between Indian heritage and the broader Indian-American experience.
