(SAN RAMON, CA.) – The City of San Ramon has released the timeline and requirements for the General Municipal Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Three seats are on the ballot this fall: Mayor, Councilmember for District 2, and Councilmember for District 4. The nomination period opens on July 13, and the City Clerk’s office is hosting a pre-nomination info meeting on July 8 for potential candidates.
The pre-nomination meeting will be held inside City Hall at 6:00 p.m. to cover required forms, campaign reporting rules, and key deadlines. Attendance isn’t restricted to just candidates, as the city notes: “You do not have to be a potential candidate to attend the pre-nomination candidate information meeting – all are welcome.”
Candidates must also adhere to strict legal timelines to get on the ballot. As the city explains, “The candidate nomination period is determined by Election Code and begins 113 days prior to the election date. If any incumbent does not file by the deadline, the nomination period will be extended.”
If applicable, the extended nomination period will close on Aug. 12. City officials strongly advise anyone considering a run to reach out to the City Clerk before raising or spending any campaign funds to ensure compliance with financial disclosure laws.
To run for office, candidates must be registered voters and current residents of San Ramon at the time their papers are issued. Because council seats are district-based, those running for District 2 or District 4 must live within those specific district boundaries.
Candidates will need to complete several state and local documents to run for office. The city’s official guidance states:
“Candidates must wait until the nomination period begins to obtain a nomination packet from the City Clerk. Forms include, but are not limited to, the Nomination Paper, Ballot Designation Worksheet, Candidate Statement (optional), Code of Fair Campaign Practices (optional), Statement of Economic Interests Form 700, and Campaign Finance Disclosure statements.”
Anyone interested in running for office is encouraged to contact the City Clerk’s office directly at (925) 973-2539 or via email at cityclerk@sanramon.ca.gov.
