(ESCAMBIA COUNTY) --- Some seasons call for heightened protection.
Officer Andy Hobbs, chief public information officer with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department (ECSO), said as the summer season begins and visitor numbers increase, so does the need for safety.
“During the summer months, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office increases its law enforcement presence throughout Escambia County, with a particular focus on high-traffic areas, community events, and Pensacola Beach,” Hobbs told OpGov.News.
Among our community, particularly on Pensacola Beach, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors, Hobbs said, noting increased patrols, strategic partnerships, and proactive enforcement efforts are how it is done.

“Deputies conduct enhanced patrols, traffic enforcement, marine operations, and proactive crime prevention initiatives designed to maintain a safe environment for residents and visitors alike,” Hobbs said.
Safety is all about timing.
That is why ECSO also utilizes its Real Time Crime Center to monitor various camera systems throughout the county actively, allowing deputies and investigators to quickly identify potential public safety concerns, Hobbs explains, noting the center’s ability to monitor crowd activity during major events.
The Blue Angels are the perfect example of heightened safety across the board.
“During major events such as the Blue Angels Air Show, there can be as many as 50 deputies assigned to Pensacola Beach at one time, in addition to numerous law enforcement partners from state and federal agencies assisting with operations,” Hobbs said.

Events draw larger crowds than usual, with many private businesses contracting off-duty deputies to assist with crowd management, traffic flow, and public safety during major events, according to the chief PIO.
“Pensacola Beach and surrounding areas experience a significant rise in tourism during the summer season,” Hobb said, adding that’s when ECSO deploys additional deputies and specialized units to the beach and entertainment districts to provide a highly visible law enforcement presence.
While officers put the public first, the ECSO watches out for officers’ well-being.
“Officer safety remains a top priority throughout the busy summer season,” Hobbs said. “ECSO utilizes advanced operational planning, coordinated communications, and strategic staffing models to ensure deputies have the resources and support needed to safely respond to calls and manage large crowds.”
Hobbs said one way locals and visitors can assist in safety is to “keep themselves and others safe by remaining aware of their surroundings, planning for traffic and parking delays, securing valuables, and staying hydrated during outdoor events."

Additionally, Hobbs said the ECSO also encourages individuals to:
• Designate meeting locations for family members in crowded areas
• Avoid impaired driving and utilize rideshare services when appropriate
• Follow traffic and pedestrian safety instructions from deputies and event staff
• Report suspicious activity or emergencies immediately
• Exercise patience during large events and heavy traffic periods
“A safe and enjoyable summer season is a shared responsibility between law enforcement and the community,” Hobbs said. “We encourage everyone to enjoy all that our community has to offer while remaining mindful of their surroundings and making responsible decisions.”
Lastly, the chief PIO said ESCO wants residents and visitors to know that public safety remains the highest priority throughout the summer season here, which brings tremendous opportunities for families, tourism, and community events.
“ECSO is proud to work alongside our public safety partners to help ensure those experiences remain safe and enjoyable for everyone,” Hobbs said.
