DUBLIN -- Councilmember John Morada seems to be the only elected official who cares about E-bike safety.
That blunt statement is due to the fact that OpGov.ai reached out to Mayor Sherry Hu, Vice Mayor Kashef Qaadri, and Councilmembers Jean Josey and Michael McCorriston to no avail.
Morada was the only one to respond to the email thread regarding the meeting where residents raised concerns.
Morada's answer to a tough question in the below email was kind and attentive, lending hope to this reporter.
"I enjoy having students come and speak. It shows a strength in their desire to engage," Morada said in an email. "Other than this week's commentary by Rayyan, there were two other students who appear on Oct 21 meeting to express their thoughts on the ordinance as well; if it's important then it's not an inconvenience."
Morada continued, noting, "Certainly, I am saddened that Rayyan's injury (or any other student for that matter) has impacted his athletic pursuits."
"It is a lesson for the City, and we've taken the first steps to reducing further incidents," Morada notes. "But let's be clear - there is a lot more work we have to do."
Morada also addressed the second question with ease and fairness, saying "as for Adnan's point, I strongly support the idea of greater action and enforcement."

"Creative community engagement is a fast way to scale," Morada said, adding that the Dublin Police Services (DPS) perform their duties with honor and a stellar record. "Yet their presence on every corner and every minute is not logistically possible."
Therefore, I have faith that collaborating and partnership with DPS and the community can evolve into model ways that show we want our kids safe, Morada added.
"Let's not forget that businesses need to step up as well," Morada said. "I proposed on Oct 21 that part of the DPS education process be to provide businesses with signage about the new ordinance."
Morada said businesses can post and speak to the ordinance.
And as for the OpGov.ai summary of e-bike commentary falling on deaf ears, Morada said is not correct.
"Actually, when the manager gave her update, she spoke about the DPS educational program that is under development," Morada said. "Therefore, the City is making things happen."
Morada, the mayor, and the council did not respond to the concerns of Eloise Hammon and Chirag Cathrani regarding the pending climate bills.
OpGov.ai will follow up on that concern with another email next week.
