(SAN FRANCISCO - Calif.) -- Scott Wiener has taken a strong lead over Connie Chan with 55.46% of the votes to 44.54%, with 57% of the votes counted so far.
There will be further returns throughout the coming days but that lead is considered significant. The winner will be the city’s first new representative in 39 years, replacing Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

Scott Wiener spoke to supporters at a San Francisco election night party. "Tonight, San Franciscans voted for results," he said.
It will be difficult for Chan, who was endorsed by Pelosi, to win, and as such she has currently conceded.

"There are still votes to count, and we will let that process unfold," said Chan in a speech at a watch party in the Mission District.
After the November 3 election night, Chan would have needed to win 55.7% of the remaining vote to overtake Wiener.
“After reviewing the results and the ballots remaining to be counted, while we expect the margin to narrow significantly, we do not have a clear path to victory,” Chan wrote in a statement her campaign released Wednesday. “I congratulate Scott Wiener on his election and wish him success in serving San Francisco.”
