(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) --- “Independent Journalism is more critical than ever,” says Connie Chan, powerhouse of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors — who has advanced past the primaries to succeed Nancy Pelosi in California’s 11th Congressional District.

Chan, recently endorsed by Pelosi, urged the Federal Communications Commission to fairly evaluate and renew the broadcast license for KGO-TV channel.

Trump-appointed FCC leadership ordered Disney’s ABC to undergo an unusual early renewal review for eight of its owned stations across the country, including KGO-TV, a local news station broadcasting in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This review was initiated following political tensions and accusations of bias against ABC, including investigations into political segments on The View and commentary made by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
The FCC is assessing whether these stations “meet their public interest obligations.”
Chan urged the Board of Supervisors to express strong affirmative support for independent journalism, not only in the San Francisco Bay Area, but in order to “create a ripple effect that will impact independent journalism elsewhere.”

Her resolution in support of KGO-TV was adopted, with broad co-sponsorship among supervisors.
“I think we all have been victims when there’s misinformation out there, not just for ourselves but for our legislation, for the policy work that we do, and for the community," said Chan.
She emphatically highlighted how independent journalism is especially vital at a time when its impact on our elections, as well as our democracy, is imperative.
Chan has said on her Facebook page that concerned residents can submit comments to the FCC supporting KGO-TV here.
