(SACRAMENTO, CA.) — A midday shooting on Saturday inside a local business in Arden-Arcade left a 31-year-old father dead, prompting an active manhunt by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, mentioned in a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, unfolded inside a business on the 1000 block of Howe Avenue (Prestige Wine and Liquor).
According to sheriff's officials, the Communications Center received a report of gunfire coming from inside the business. Deputies dispatched to the scene entered the establishment immediately and located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies quickly initiated life-saving measures and requested emergency medical personnel. Despite the rapid efforts of first responders, fire department personnel pronounced the man deceased at the scene.
The victim has been publicly identified in news stories and on social media by his grieving family as Kenneth "Tut" Peace. Speaking with reporters, family members described the father of two as a provider and a comedian who made everyone smile. His sudden loss has sparked outrage and calls for justice.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect fled the area in a vehicle before deputies arrived. Homicide Detectives are checking for surveillance footage and canvassing the area for potential witnesses. As of Sunday, no suspect descriptions, motives, or arrest information have been officially confirmed by authorities.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line at (916) 874-5115.

The following curated comments represent the discussions and reactions shared by local community members following the tragedy:
Bridget Shelton: "I had just passed there about 20 minutes before it happened and and 3 hrs later passed the after math."
Sean Joseph Webb: "The entire Howe, Arden, Marconi area has turned into the new South Sac. Didn’t this used to be a nice area in Sacramento not too long ago?"
Carol Mondine: "This is so sad to hear. I used to shop there in the 90s and I remember the older gentleman that owned it then used to lay behind the counter on milk crates with a shotgun on his chest, while his clerk worked. Sad to think you must do that to protect your life. Praying for the family."
Tamyzia Robinson (victim's cousin): "My cousin was not a gang member; he had nothing but love in his heart."
Pretty Tiny (close friend): "He was a good person who worked an actual job. I talked to Kenny every day. He worked from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in a warehouse. We all have a past, but he didn’t deserve this. His children's mother is battling cancer, and he was supposed to be getting custody of his kids. I don't know what could have caused this, but no one deserves to die unless it's God calling us home. Rest in peace, Kenny Ray. You are going to be missed, big baby."
